Sheikh Assim Al-Hakeem is a Saudi Islamic scholar and preacher, born in Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia, in 1962 and raised in Jeddah. He studied linguistics at King Abdulaziz University before completing a Higher Diploma in Islamic Studies at Umm Al-Qura University in Makkah. He is known for his lectures, sermons, and answering Islamic questions in English.

He has appeared on several Islamic television channels, including Huda TV and Zad TV. Huda TV, an Egyptian Islamic channel launched in 2005, broadcasts English-language Islamic content worldwide, and Sheikh Assim was its first host of Ask Huda. Zad TV, a Saudi-based Islamic educational channel, is home to Ask Zad, another Islamic Q&A program hosted by Sheikh Assim.

What is the ruling on insurance?

This is strictly prohibited, mainly for two reasons: Involves gambling, if something bad happens you will receive compensation. And interest or Ribā (رِبا) which is also forbidden.

How to deal with people who are always talking about Mahdi's arrival, Dajjal, battle at the end times?

The arrival of ad-Dajjāl (المسيح الدجّال) or the anti-Christ will test the faith of the true Muslims. It will bait the weak willing into giving up Islam. Ignore this people and just spend your time trying to become a better believer.

Is you hear one of your fellow Muslims preaching about the Dajjāl, RUN. DO NOT CONFRONT HIM. He is already a Kāfir (كافر).

When is the real start of Ramadan?

This can vary depending on the location, mainly based on the sighting of the moon.

What happens to our soul between our Death and Resurrection?

This is something we don't know enough about. We can know for certainty that you can suffer before you die.

Once your soul is taken by the angels of death, you will go to the 7th Heaven. Here believers will be praised and sent back to their grave where they will rest with an open window who allows them to view paradise until the day of Judgement.

What is the ruling on smoking cigarettes?

This is totally prohibited even in non-Muslims countries. It causes cancer and a stinky breath.

Some Muslims may think this is Makrooh, no it is not, It is Haram. Even if it were you should stay far away from it as it not pleases Allah.

Must we close our Doors, Windows, Curtains, Cover Pots & containers at Maghrib?

No, this ruling only applies to doors during the Maghrib (مَغْرِب) or sunset prayer.

Saying Bismillah after entering your house and before eating dinner will keep Shaitan and his companions away from you.

Is praising someone permissible in Islam?

You are allowed to praise someone but keep it limited, no one should be praised more than Allah.

Adding a disclaimer after praising someone such as: "I don't praise him before Allah" (وَلَا أُزَكِّي عَلَى اللَّهِ أَحَدًا) can clear you from confusion.

What about Muslims who celebrate Christmas & New Years?

We cannot know for certain, but they are somehow interlinked.

If misfortune falls into someone that is a dis-believer, it most likely a punishment. In the opposite if it falls into someone who is a good practicing Muslim and he learns about compassion and patience this was just a test.

Most likely. This means there is something wrong with you either your lifestyle, maybe someone you just knew or maybe a sin that you are not noticing.

If you commit a sin then repent, commit the same sin again and so on, you can be forgiven by Allah as long as you ended up quitting by the end.

Why are there many levels of Jannah?

We don't know, but what we do know for certainty is that the lower levels lack benefits that the higher ones possess. For instance higher levels are closer to Allah.

You should aim for the stars. If asking Allah for something ask him for the highest degree.

Food Questions

Are Machine Slaughtered Chickens Halal to eat?

As long as the folks that prepare it, guarantee you that the meat was killed in a Halal (Permissible by Islam) manner, you are safe to eat from it until proven the contrary.

As long as you say Bismillah before activating automated machinery that kills a hundred chickens simultaneously, is Halal. However if the machinery does not act simultaneously when killing, the poultry is considered dead meat and thus must not be consumed.

Can you eat or drink while standing up?

Both fit into the category of recommended, you are encouraged to eat and drink while sitting. But if you can't do it, it's okay there is not an issue.

The prohibition of drinking while standing comes from it being disliked, more than of an actual ruling.

Is bulking & bodybuilding permissible in Islam?

Bodybuilding without using enhancers, and in a way that ends up not being an obsession is Halal

You can't body-build in an intent to show off your Aura (هالة).

Why are people who die single, when Allah created things in pairs?

This is a misinterpretation of Allah words. When he Said "We created you in pairs" he is talking about male and female, heat and cold, day and night and so on.

Ruling on drinking beer & percentage of alcohol in drinks and food?

Alcohol can be present in Halal foods and drinks, however keep in mind the purpose of them. If they were made with the sole intention of get you intoxicated, than a single drop it's considered Haram.

If there is alcohol in juice or drink and you can drink a large amount of it with out you getting drunk, it's permissible.

Can we go to a restaurant that has music and free mixing in it?

There is no mixing in restaurants, just sit in your table. Remember the difference between hearing and listening, as long as you try not paying attention to the music and it being involuntary you should be fine.

Avoid western restaurants were they serve ham and wine.

What is the ruling on fasting Friday or Saturday (voluntary or mandatory fasts)?

You are not allowed to voluntarily fast the Fridays only, you either must fast the next day, Saturday or otherwise fasted the past day, Thursday otherwise break your ongoing fast. Also on top of this rule you cannot voluntarily fast on Fridays nor Saturdays, unless you are doing the fasting of Ṣawm Dāwūd (صوم داود) where you have to fast in intermittent days.

If the fasting you are doing is mandatory instead you must fast in those days: for example when completing missed Ramadan days.

Can we blow on our Food or Drink if it's hot?

You cannot breath in the vessel if it's shared with others, it is prohibited. However there is a discussion if you are talking about your own cup, some scholars say that it is permissible.

Just to be sure get a second cup and move the liquid between them until it becomes cold.

Is Noodle or Maggi Halal?

It may be bad for your blood pressure but it is allowed, there is not texts forbidding you from eating it.

Something being Haram can only be defined by real scholars, this is not a matter of opinion.

Games & Shit Questions

Can we play video games?

It depends of what kind of what game we are talking about: games that obviously promote violent or prohibited behaviors are Haram, meanwhile games about sports could be Halal.

Is having a career in video games permissible in Islam?

Again, as long as they don't take much of your time and they possess Halal content it's permissible. However because developing a career requires you spend a lot of your time and thinking this is not permissible.

Thinking about video games while praying is a sin. Also Allah will ask you about of did you spend your youth, and this will not be a favorable look for you. I'm looking at you Forsen.

Is playing with cards allowed?

You are allowed to play, but remember to not gamble, nor cheat, nor play games that were created with the concept of gambling in mind and to cover the faces of the kings, queens and jacks.

You are allowed to entertain yourself, remember to not distract yourself from you obligations as a Muslim.

Is it permissible to create or design video games to earn money?

Once again, if the content that the game portrayals is not violent, not replicating Allah creations, nor involves gambling then it's allowed.

Bombing aliens in space invaders and consuming ghosts as Pac-Man in old Atari games is Halal.

Is the Minecraft Video Game Halal?

No, it is not. Portrayals animals which again imitate the creations of Allah.

Some people argue that this content may not be real. You may as well watch pornography since it's not real either.

What is the ruling on playing Chess in Islam?

There is no issue if played in moderation. Remember to not gamble, nor cheat and to cover the knight or to separate his head if it's copying one of the creations from Allah.

This can be even beneficial for your brain and prevent Alzheimer.

Household Questions

My parents kicked my wife from the home. What should i do? I can't disobey them.

By just asking this you should just release your woman from marriage, you are simply not man enough to have a wife. Marriage is only suitable and permissible for real men.

It's wrong for you to allow your parents to mistreat your wife, stop being such a mommy's boy and grow up or divorce and free her.

Can we keep dogs at home?

Having a dog at home is permissible as long as it has a legitimate purpose. If not, a Mount Uhud (جبل أُحُد, Jabal Uḥud) will be deducted from your good deeds account each subsequent day. Forsen got rid of Peppah the very same day after hearing this.

Angels do not enter in houses which contain dogs. Keeping a dog without a recognized purpose may cause you to lose one or two qirat (قيراط) of reward daily.

What about married couple who willingly choose to not have children?

This goes against the fundamentals of getting married so it's a sin. If she unwillingly cannot have kids, don't marry her.

You can tell that a woman is fertile by just observing her sisters, if they already conceived.

What is the ruling in adoption in Islam?

Adoption simply does not exists in Islam. The main issue arises when they come of age because they are not related to the opposite gender, it becomes Haram being around them.

You can let your sister feed a adopted baby-girl five times for you to become related to her and this way avoid mixing. However she will still be mixing with your sons if you already have any, since they are still not related in any from to her.

What are the rights of an older sibling over his younger siblings? ( Mentioned )

Call your parents, if they are not here then you can only advise him and you are not allowed to hit him.

Yes, you are allowed to have cats as pets as narrated in the Hadith.

What is the ruling on suicide bombing?

This is PROHIBITED, mainly because Islam forbids you to kill yourself, unless you want to do this repeatably in the eternal fire of elo hell until judgement day.

Is slavery allowed in Islam?

The only permissible slavery in Islam includes non-believers prisoners of war, you can forgive the live of this enemies of Islam to give them an honest living, instead of simply executing them.

You can travel to a non-believer county for work or other noble reasons and is allowed as long as it's temporary.

Even if the standards of living may be better, you may not be able to practice your religion freely, and worse you and your children will be surrounded by tempting sin.

Should we differentiate between Jews & Zionists?

Which haircuts that are prohibited for men?

Having other parts than the top of your hair shorter, is what we call a normal haircut which is not prohibited. However haircuts that directly imitate or copy the disbelievers are in fact Haram.

Dayyūth (ديوث) are simply men who don't care what women do, they end up accepting or tolerating sexual immorality or adultery involving females in their household.

Can men wear the red color?

The prohibition only applies to something that is completely red. This makes the streamsnipers wearing the classic red t-shirt Haram.

If the clothing is mixed with any other color it becomes Halal.

Length of garment above ankles for men. Is wearing below ankles without pride ok?

If the clothing covers your ankles by mistake, you will be punished in hell. If you willingly choose to do it out of arrogance, the punishment will be even more severe.

When your ankles are completely hidden and covered by your garments, you enter the category of Isbāl (إسبال), Allah won't even talk to you in the Day of Judgement, and you shall forever burn in the eternal fire.

Can I Shave my Moustache & Beard?

The hair that grows in the lower jaw is considered part of the Lihyah (لِحْيَة) you cannot trim nor cut it. However you are allowed to trim your mustache and to shave your neck and part of the cheeks that not include the hair on your cheekbones.

Shaving your neck will you awkward and awful but this is still permissible.

Can men be shirtless in front of other men?

As Muslims you must protect from the temptation of Shaitan. If you expose yourself like this you will attract the evil eye, but also makes you show arrogance which is a sin.

Covering your body is part of Allah's blessing.

Purity Questions

Should we change the bedsheets after intercourse? Please clarify

We can assume that semen or Mani (مني) is pure because it's mentioned in the sacred texts that we can clean stained cloth by just rubbing it instead of washing. But we cannot know for certain if any other genital fluids are pure because they are not specifically mentioned.

The most authentic opinion is that whatever that is mixed with semen is considered permissible, so it won't affect your Salat (صلاة).

What are the level of impurities?

At the bottom, with the lowest level of impurity we have most genital fluids. Here we include things like Semen (Mani) and pre-cum (Mathi). Then a tier up we have excretions, like urine, popoo and menstrual blood. Finally the most extreme cases of impurity come from saliva from others.

You must wash the contaminated kitchen equipment seven times with water and once with soil before it can be pure again.

How to deal with splashes after urinating and flushing?

In this situations we always assume that things are pure until proved with certainty that they are not. If still in doubt you can just wash it.

If you pee while sitting and feel a splash, it's always a 50/50. However you can just ignore and assume you are clean and not touched by najāsah (نجاسة).

How to know when your period ends?

What counts is the presence or absence of the main flow of blood, if there is no discharge she can go back to praying after 12 hours.

If there is no blood on her clothes she doesn't have the need to change, she can pray with that same clothing.

Does sleeping while sitting or reclining break one's Wudu?

Once someone falls asleep, their body relaxes being unable to control his fluids. This neglects their Wudu, which means you must go and wash yourself again.

Simply resting your eyes, but staying aware of your surroundings means that is okay.

Got urine drops on my pants👖so I put a bit of water on it. Is this enough?

You should take out your pants off pour water in that area and squeeze it. Otherwise flooding the area with plenty of water will do.

The Prophet said that pouring a bucket of water will dilute the urine and purify the clothing. Keep in mind a ratio of ten to one.

What about only using toilet paper to purify oneself?

Yes, Istijmār (الاستجمار) or dry cleaning the area were an impurity left the body is recommended if you don't have water.

You are not allowed to use less than three stones when dry wiping. Same three stones.

How to purify an item that can't be washed if it has impurity?

There is two types of surfaces:

-The ones that are porous (Wood, cloth, bricks, etc.), to clean this materials you need to wash them.

-And the ones that are smooth (Glass, metal, etc.), just wiping this ones will be enough.

If you still can't wash it, it must be thrown away.

Knowledge erases any doubts that Shaitan imposes upon you.

What about doubts whether he passed wind or not (Detect sound or smell)?

Again, doubts don't defeat certainty, if you are not sure you farted (passed wind) there is no reason for you to restart your prayer.

If you can hear it or smell it however you most remake your Wudu and prayer, since this invalidates it.

Wife Questions

Is loving & taking care of your wife obligatory or just providing for her is sufficient?

Just limiting a marriage to dry obligations is not what what Allah intended. Compassion, love and mercy should be present in every instance of a lasting relationship.

The Prophet himself advises that to increase the love in a relation you shall share gifts with your peers.

It's against Sunnah if women put a condition in the marriage contract about not having a second wife?

No, the wife has the complete right of divorcing in the case her husband fails to fulfill what was established initially in said marriage contract.

Muhammad objected to Ali marrying the daughter of Abu Jahl while he was married to Fatimah. The Prophet said that Fatimah was part of him and that what harmed her would harm him.

What if after marriage i found that she is not virgin, and she had multiple relations before?

We define as virgin as someone who was not previously married, if they confessed any previous extra marital affairs after engagement and they repent you are allowed to forgive them.

You are not allow to tell anyone that you had unlawful relations before marriage, this is forbidden.

My Husband watch porn does he committing adultery and can i reject him?

You are allowed to reject him, however the issue resides in you (the wife) for not fulfilling your role correctly.

If you simply do your job correctly as a wife, and exhaust him in the bedroom this would not happen.

How to deal with a cheating Husband?

Similar to the previous question, the wife should take better care of her figure, trying to fix the situation if possible.

If she is fat she needs to get her act together, go in a diet, do more excessive, so she can please her companion.

Can a guy have a relationship with a girl if the intention is Marriage & he avoids being Haram with her?

Any type of premarital relation is sinful, if you do you forever will burn in hellfire.

Shaitan will slowly lead you to commit Haram acts, you will fall for it no matter how strong your willpower is.

Who will be the spouse in Jannah if one of them is in hell for sometime?

When a Muslim couple dies they will be admitted to Jannah (جنّة) or paradise, as a couple and live in total happiness forever. If they are sinful however, they have to be purified from sin, they may be separated until then.

There is drinking and partying in paradise, but not like the ones in earth. No orgies and homosexuals either.

Why is it allowed to marry cousins in Islam when science tells us that the child may be abnormal?

Science can be wrong the only certain truth comes only from the texts in the Quran.

The prophet himself married his cousin Safiyyah bint Huyayy (صفية بنت حيي), even tough Allah told him it was not recommended. Later he also gives his daughter Fatimah to his cousin Ali ibn Abi Talib (علي بن أبي طالب) and they never had any problems.

Are the colored discharges BEFORE the period or menses, part of the period or not?

Once again, if it is a fine thread or few drops of blood, disregard the color of the discharge and get to praying. Once the blood really starts, you cannot pray until there is no more colored discharge.

As long as the main flood of blood as not started yet, resort to Wudu (وُضوء) then you can pray. Once it starts you are not allowed until you get your purity back in the form of a clean or no discharge.

Is it a valid divorce if husband threatens it? 3 divorces in one sitting

If a husband says "You are divorced" three times in a row he cannot remarry you unless you marry some other man then divorce him. Threats are not valid.

Previously a husband only had to say it once, however this will change depending in the ruling of the Islamic court in your location of residence. Take your particular case there for more detailed information.

As long as the drawings are lifeless and don't resemble the creations of Allah, praised be his name, it's permissible by Islam. If the cross that is being mentioned is the one that Christians use, then no because it's Haram.

If they are 2D logos it can be simply scratched, covered or removed, but 3D figures or statues SHOULD BE DECAPITATED! YOU MUST CUT THEIR HEADS OFF!

Can we draw picture of humans or animals without eyes?

The general consensus among scholars is that as long as the drawings don't have any facial features nor a head it is permissible.

According to the Prophet (عليه السلام) the ones that should be the most punished in judgement day will be the ones that specifically draw pictures of humans and animals.

What about images of living things or cartoons on clothes & validity of Salah?

The main issue comes from the drawings of humans present in the clothing. Angels won't be able to protect you.

If you pray like this, the prayer is valid. But you are still sinful.

Why is it prohibited to hang pictures on the walls?

Similar to the concept of copying the creations of Allah, you are not allowed to do this because you can get confused and talk or interact with said pictures in the same way as you would do with the real counterparts.

When watching television what you see instead is the reflection of light trough your TV, which it is allowed.

-Whispers of Shaitan: You are supposed to say: أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ" three times and spit to your left. Don't tell anyone about the dream, it's Haram.

-Dreams from subconscious.

Good dreams = Visions of Allah

The music and singing is no other than the voice of Shaitan himself. Do not fall for his temptation.

Go to any Gym and work out without music, then do it again with music this time. You will do better, last longer. This energy comes from no other than Shaitan.

What about pouring hot, boiling water in places where Jinn live?

You are allowed to do if you are trying to unclog pipes or so, there is not a Hadith forbidding it.

Make sure to say Bismillah to letting the Jinn know beforehand, so they can avoid getting harmed.
